Ali Motamed
Managing Partner
Founder, Managing Partner, and Portfolio Manager. Prior to founding Invenomic, Ali was Co-Portfolio manager of the Boston Partners Long/Short Equity Fund. He was awarded Portfolio Manager of the Year in the Alternatives Category by Morningstar in 2014. Prior to joining Boston Partners, he was a member of the global mergers and acquisitions teams at Deutsche Bank and BT Wolfensohn. Mr. Motamed holds a B.A. degree in economics with a minor in accounting from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He has twenty years experience.
When he is not working, Ali enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids and participating in outdoor activities. Although he grew up in California, he has converted to a full-fledged Boston sports fan and particularly enjoys cheering for the Celtics and Patriots.
Ben Deschaine
President & Chief Compliance Officer
Ben is responsible for all non-investment related business activities at Invenomic. Ben began his investment career in 1998 and has experience in both mutual fund and hedge fund investing. Prior to Invenomic, he was Chief Investment Officer at Balter Liquid Alternatives, responsible for managing all aspects of the firm’s mutual fund business. Before joining Balter Capital Management in 2012, Ben was a Managing Director at Sabretooth Capital Management, a global multi‐strategy hedge fund affiliated with Tiger Management. Prior to Ben’s time at Sabretooth he spent ten years at Federal Street Advisors, a Boston based wealth management firm, leading their alternative investment research. He is a graduate of Bentley University with a B.S. and M.S. in Finance, and holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.
When not working, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys. He is an accomplished youth soccer coach spending most weekends on the soccer field helping develop youth players.
Nathaniel (Nate) Victor
Analyst
Nate is responsible for covering equities across multiple sectors. Prior to joining Invenomic, Nate researched Internet stocks at UBS and was an Economist at General Motors. Nate is a 2016 M.B.A. graduate of the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University where he managed the Reynolds Trust. He received an M.S. in Agriculture Economics from Michigan State University in 2012 and a B.A. in Economics from Kalamazoo College in 2009. Nate is also a CFA charterholder.
When he is not researching stocks, Nate enjoys running along the Charles River in Boston, serving on various committees at United Parish of Brookline, and exploring more of the Northeast’s state parks with his wife, dog and new daughter.
Paul Goncalves Jr.
Analyst
Paul is responsible for covering equities across multiple sectors. He began his career in investment management in 2003 after graduating from Connecticut College with a B.A. in Economics. Prior to joining Invenomic, he worked at KeyBanc Capital Markets in San Francisco covering the homebuilder and building products industries. Paul is a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Society of Boston. In addition to his B.A. in Economics, he earned an M.B.A. from Indiana University in 2011 as a double major in Finance and Accounting.
Outside of work, Paul enjoys outdoor activities, Boston sports teams, and international travel with his family.
Kevin Wahle
Associate Analyst
Kevin is responsible for covering equities across multiple sectors. He recently graduated from Creighton University in 2021 with a BSBA in Economics. Prior to joining Invenomic he held internships and roles in fundamental and technical buy-side equity analysis, commodity risk modeling, and sell-side equity research.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoys golfing as a retired collegiate athlete, working out, and watching sports with friends. Kevin also explores other areas of interest by watching documentaries.
Sujin Kim
Associate Analyst
Sujin is responsible for covering equities across multiple sectors. Prior to joining Invenomic, she audited the financial statements for the financial services sector as a CPA at KPMG in Seoul. Sujin graduated from University of Seoul with a B.A. in Taxation in 2015 and recently received a M.S. in Finance from Boston College in 2021.
Outside of work, Sujin loves exploring art events in Boston with friends. She also enjoys playing tennis on outdoor courts.
Bahij Hourani
Associate Analyst
Bahij is responsible for covering equities across multiple sectors. He graduated from Michigan State University in 2019 with a B.A. in Finance. While at school, he held equity research internship positions in long-only and long/short strategies. Bahij started his career in the private markets, working in the venture capital and co-investment division at the State of Michigan Retirement Systems. Prior to joining Invenomic, Bahij was on the private equity research team at Mercer, researching private equity funds and co-investments. Bahij has a passion for the public markets, is a certified Financial Risk Manager and a CFA charterholder.
Outside of work, Bahij enjoys playing golf and working out. He also enjoys watching comedy and the English Premier League.
Robert Cerulle
Associate Analyst
Rob is responsible for covering equities across multiple sectors. He recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania earning a BS in Economics, with a double concentration in Finance and Legal Studies from the Wharton School of Business.
Outside of work, Rob enjoys spending time with his family, watching Boston sports and numismatics. Rob also enjoys participating in athletic competition, being a retired collegiate athlete.
Melanie Wong
Data Analyst
Melanie is responsible for the overall data, quantitative and analytics needs of Invenomic. Prior to joining Invenomic, Melanie worked as a Principal Consultant at SS&C Eze and was a Finance Manager at Bain Capital Credit. Melanie is a 2011 B.B.A graduate of The George Washington University where she studied International Business and Chinese Language & Literature. She received an M.B.A in Strategy and Innovation from Boston University in 2018.
When not working, Melanie enjoys spending time with family and friends. You can find her in the kitchen whipping up a meal, outside playing sports, or on the slopes.
Brendan Dougherty
Director of Operations
Brendan is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm.
Prior to joining Invenomic, Brendan worked in operations at HighVista Strategies, supporting the marketables portfolio. Prior to that, he spent over a decade in operations at a quantitative investment manager, Bogle Investment Management. Brendan is a graduate of Northeastern University with a B.S. in Finance and Accounting.
Outside of work, Brendan is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hiking throughout the Northeast when he is not spending time with his wife and son.
Nicholas Harris
Compliance Analyst
Nicholas is responsible for assisting the Chief Compliance Officer with ensuring the firm is in compliance with the Adviser Act, '40 Act, and other applicable regulations.
Prior to joining Invenomic, Nicholas graduated from the University of Tampa with a B.S. in International Business and Management in 2019. He then earned his Juris Doctor from New England Law | Boston in 2022, where his coursework focused on corporate law as well as compliance and regulation. He earned a Certificate in Compliance and Risk Management concurrently with his Juris Doctor. Prior to higher education, Nick served as a combat medic in the United States Army.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, friends, and his dog Luna.
Bob Marx
Head of Client Relationships
Bob is responsible for managing client relationships and leading marketing initiatives for Invenomic.
Prior to joining Invenomic, Bob was Director of Client Relations with Balter Liquid Alternatives. Before that, he was a Sales Manager at Wells Fargo Asset Management working within multiple channels and a Financial Advisor at CUNA Mutual, managing client assets in four branches throughout Southern Massachusetts. Bob also held the position of Regional Vice President in Texas with Evergreen Investments and in New England with Transamerica. Bob received his Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Business and Communications from Arizona State University and has twenty three years of financial services industry experience. He is a CAIA Level 1 candidate and holds his FINRA Series 6, Series 7, Series 24, and Series 63 licenses.
When he’s not working, Bob loves spending time with his twins Joseph and Georgia, wife, and their dog. He enjoys all sports but is limited to golf, skiing, and the occasional run on the courts.
Patrick Taffe
Director - Client Relationships
Patrick joined Invenomic in 2019 as a Director with responsibility for managing client relationships and marketing related activities.
Previously, he was a Director in the Equity Division of Mizuho Securities and worked in institutional equities at RBC Capital Markets. Prior to moving to be Boston, he was at Credit Suisse in San Francisco. Patrick has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Bucknell University and holds the Charted Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.
Outside of work, he spends most of his time with his wife and three children while looking for the next good book or podcast.
Kevin Ross
Director - Client Relationships
Kevin is responsible for managing client relationships and marketing related activities for Invenomic.
Prior to joining Invenomic, Kevin was a Product Specialist with Balter Liquid Alternatives. Before that, he was a Regional Associate with F-Squared Investments and a Financial Services Professional with New York Life Insurance Company and NYLIFE Securities. Kevin is a graduate of Boston College with a B.S. in Management and has eleven years of financial services industry experience. He is a CAIA Level 2 candidate and holds the FINRA Series 6, Series 63, and Series 65 licenses.
Originally from Western Massachusetts, Kevin participated in many sports growing up including baseball, basketball, and golf. He’s still getting over coming up just one win shy of playing in the 2006 Babe Ruth World Series. Outside of work, Kevin spends his free time with his wife, son, family, and friends.
